Grandparent's Day DIY Project

Who doesn't love an easy DIY craft project?!

I love any kind of crafting- being creative and doing creative things is fulfilling as well as relaxing to me!

I love it even more when it's simple and doesn't take much effort (especially when my girls are involved)!

Bryn and Liv always want to do arts and crafts- they enjoy being creative just like me so I'm always trying to find something a little different. This might be the easiest craft we've done and the girls loved doing it! I hope you have fun with it as much as they did!

Since Grandparents' Day is coming up in a few weeks, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do a project for the grandparents when the girls were whining that they were bored, they didn't want to play dolls anymore and their Barbie Jeep died in the back yard. It took very little effort on my part, as my girls were old enough to design their plates on their own. It gave me 30 minutes of peace with the baby and the girls had fun laughing at what the other was drawing on their plate for their grandparents!

Things you will need

1. Dish, mug or bowl

2. Sharpie Markers

3. An oven

Step 1

As you can see from the list above, you probably have all the items needed already at home. You can buy plain White plates at the Dollar Store to make this a very inexpensive project. But, if you're in a bind, just take an old plate or mug out of your cabinet (that you don't mind becoming a piece of your child's art), give he/she a Sharpie and let them go to town!

Step 2

After the plates are done being designed, I let them sit for about 10 minutes to really dry and then turned on the oven. Set your oven to 350* and place the mug/plate in the oven (before it even gets hot) for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, turn off the oven and leave the plate in there as it cools down for about 1 hour

.

Step 3

Take the warm plate out of the oven and that's it! You're done! Your creation should be lightly hand washed after use and not put in the dishwasher but I would give it 24 hours to set before I would wash (personal preference).

I literally think this DIY was as easy as giving the girls their coloring books and crayons and now the grandparents all have cute little personal creations for Grandparents' Day!
